BILLINGS IN BRABANT

‘Billings in Brabant’ is the working title for a documentary - under development - about the impact of the first 48 hours of ‘Operation Market Garden’ on the little village of Eerde and its inhabitants. The story focusses on Piet van Riel - a then 12 years old boy, who lived at the strategically important local windmill - and the American soldier Henry J. Billings - ‘Pathfinder’  in the 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment (101st US Airborne Division). September 17, 1944 was the first of their many encounters.
